Training

All cadets progress through an academic training syllabus divided into four stages, or classifications:

First Class Badge First Class - This syllabus covers the basic information about the ATC and the RAF, plus a variety of other interesting subjects that will give new cadets the foundations they need to go on to a successful career in the squadron.
First Class Badge Leading Cadet - For cadets to achieve their Leading Cadet classification there are three mandatory subjects to study; Airmanship Knowledge, Basic Navigation with Map & Compass and Principles of Flight.  At the end of the training period cadets take an on-line exam, in a multiple choice answer format.
First Class Badge Senior Cadet - Just like Leading cadet, there is an exam to pass.  Cadets can choose from a number of subjects including: Advanced Radio & Radar, Aircraft Handling, Aircraft Electrical Systems, Air & Pilot Navigation, Jet/Piston or Rocketry Engine Propulsion, Military Aircraft Systems and Satellite & Data Communications.
First Class Badge Master Air Cadet - As with the other exams, the Master Air Cadet exam is an on-line exam in a multiple choice answer format of three subjects.   Once cadets have complete their Master Air Cadet syllabus, they are eligible to be awarded a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Aviation Studies.
First Class Badge Instructor Cadet - To complete this course cadets have completed a Method of Instruction Course and been assessed on delivering instruction in a training environment.   Once passed, the coveted Staff Cadet Lanyard is awarded.
